What Causes Itching Sensation All Over The Body While On Metformin?

I have been on metformin since 8 days and I ve been itchy for 2-3 days all over my skin! Insane! Is this dangerous? Am I having an allergy reaction to the medecine and will it make me stop breathing? Or is the worst that can happen be that I will continue to itch?

Hi.
As per your case history you are having prurigo simplex.
It is not metformin related.
My treatment advice is -
1. Avoid fast food and food with artificial colors.
2. Apply a soothing lotion like calamine lotion on affected region twice daily.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral steroid like prednisone or betamethasone taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
Dr. Harshit bhachech.
