What Causes Itching Sensation And Numbness On Outer Thigh?

I'm having a problem with a large area of skin on my outer thigh that is very itchy at times, and that is numb. It itch appears to be centered from one spot, possibly an insect bite, but the numbness is spread over an area about 3 by 6 inches. What might be causes of this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Welcome to health care magic.

1.The history and symptoms suggest possibilities of nerve compression at the level of lower lumbar spine or hip joint pathology.
2.When joint space reduced the nerve get compressed and rubbing of the nerve occurs.
3.Itchy skin can be seen as a skin infection / inflammation, but numb ness is seen as a radiating symptoms.
4. Treatment in this case includes back exercises including hip joint relaxation exercises.
5.Initially start with a x-ray lumbar spine and hip joints to see the bones and joint spaces - further treatment depending on the findings. However MRI is investigation of choice.

Good luck.
