What Causes Itching Sensation And Swelling In The Throat After Inhaling Paint Spray?

Today I was painting my children s room. It s medium sized room. I had the windows open but the air flow wasn t great. Two full cans of spray paint were used, one was chalkboard spray paint. I also used vinyl paint for the walls. Since, my throat is sore and itchy and feels a bit swollen and my chest is sore on and off. I have this strange taste at the back of my mouth aswell which I can t get rid of. Should I go to the emergency room or will everything be okay?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain spray painting can cause inhalation of paint particles along with air and as it is a chemical composition it can cause irritation in throat and can cause soreness, itching and pain..
Strange taste at the back of throat is also due to the chemicals present in the spray paint..

Nothing to worry as the symptoms will gradually resolve as the mucous of the throat will heal and the particles of the paint that have settled over the mucosa due to inhalation will be removed off..

I would suggest you to start doing warm saline gargles atleast 3 to 4 times a day..
Drink plenty of cool water..
You can also take Sucralfate to relieve the burning and prevent further damage to mucosa..
Take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen to relieve pain..

In case if still there is no improvement consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated..

Hope this helps..

Regards .
