What Causes Itching Sensation On Shoulders While On Methotrexate For RA?

I recently restarted taking methotrexate for RA and my second dose will be Friday. I have had severe skin crawling sensation/itching on both shoulders and back for the last three days. Any connection. The only other med that is new is Tylenol 3 and have been on that a few days longer. Want to take a Benadryl but was unsure if it was safe.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Bothersome side effects of medications to patients who have sensitive skin are skin reactions like rash, itching, dizziness, etc. Inform the treating doctor so that the medicines can be replaced by other that suits you better.

In the meantime, you are suggested to drink adequate water to flush out toxicity from the body system. Take non sedating antihistamines(Levocetirizine), once daily for 3(three) days to get rid of the allergic skin reaction. You can apply ointment soframycin to feel better.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
