What Causes Itching Under The Breasts After Taking Metformin And Glipizide?

I have type 2 dibetics...was taking metformin and the dr added glipizide. I took 40 mg a day for about 6 months then she put me on farzia 10 mg. I have a terrible itch now..she swited me to glimeside 4 mg and I quit taking farzia. The itch is still there. Is glimiseide the same as glipizide? The itching is under my breasts and in the groin area, not the vaginial area

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

No, these are not the same medications but they are in the same family of drugs.
They would both be classified as sulphonyureas.

Though the medication may have contributed to the itching, it is possible that intertrigo may also be playing a role.
Intertrigo refers to inflammation of the body folds and typically occurs under the breast, in the groin area, in the armpits.

It can further be complicated by fungal and/or bacterial infection

Heat, friction and moisture cause/worsen intertrigo so treatment involves reducing these factors.
This involves: (1) separating the folds with cotton or linen material whenever possible, wearing cool non restrictive clothing
(2)using barrier protection- petrolatum , any zinc based cream
(3)apply a short course a mild steroid cream to decrease itching eg hydrocortisone
(4)a topical antifungal would also be helpful as well eg miconazole powder

I hope this helps
