What Causes Itchy Ears And Soreness On The Roof Of The Mouth?
The roof of my mouth towards the back has been sore and raw for a month, itchy in my ears too. Is this a reaction to dust mites, which I ve been tested and found to be allergic to. How can I get rid of a dust mite allergy, or reduce the effects? It feels like I have a constant cold with itchy eyes, runny nose and sneezing, but it s not a cold. Thanks
Itchy ears along with sore mouth are unlikely to be due to allergy. The more likely possibility is herpes infection (caused by virus). It is characterized by the formation of blisters in mouth and ears associated with itching. Treatment is with antiviral medication like valacyclovir. You can take an antihistamine like cetirizine 10 mg once daily to relieve itching. Regarding dust mite allergy, the most important factor in management is avoiding exposure to dust mite. Clean fabrics, sheets etc regularly with hot water. Vacuum carpet regularly. Use HEPA filter in air conditioning unit. You can also use antihistamine/ decongestant combination like Allegra-D to relieve itching and nasal congestion.
