What Causes Itchy Rash On The Chest Radiating To The Back?

I developed a spreading, itching rash on my chest the morning after I was in my hot tub, which is regularly treated with prescribed chemicals for the filters and the water. The rash started on my chest and has spread to my back and now downward to a limited extent on my extremities. The bumps are not pustules, there is no sign of bacterial infection, and the itching responds a bit to antihistamines. It tends to worsen at night, and the bumps redden, of course, after scratching. Discharge is minimal, and the bumps are small. Thoughts? YYYY@YYYY

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of itchy rash on the chest radiating to the back. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query hair follicle entrapment with dead skin and bacteria, excessive hot water interaction, contact dermatitis , eczema , dry skin , eczema and erythema nodosum. Need not to owrry. I would suggest you to apply cold compresses on rashes , avoid applying any cosmetic product except petroleum jelly , take over the counter antihistamine like benadryl and drink plenty of water. You should avoid contacting your skin again with warm things and prefer cold water bath. If condition doesn't get well the consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may order test like blood test , allergy test and skin patch test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants along with corticosteroid ointment or antibiotics like clindamycin .
