What Causes Itchy Rashes On Forearms, hands And Fingers?

I have a rash on forearms, surface of hands, fingers(half of the fingers in length, left side of neck, left side of face (sometimes). It itches mostly at night. I ve had it for one and a half months; extreme itching. Could ingesting colloidal silver help heal it? Please advise.

Hello,

Itching may be due to the following conditions:
1) Allergic dermatitis
2) Irritant dermatitis
3) Insect bites
4) Atopic dermatitis
5) Drug induced allergy
6) Photosensitivity

Treatment depends upon the cause of rash. The following are few treatment options:
1) Topical soaks with cool tap water, Burow solution (1:40 dilution), saline (1 tsp/pint) can be soothing
2) Sedating oral antihistamines may help diminish itching. Tab. Cetirizine or tab. Benadryl 25mg twice daily can be taken to decrease itching
3) Topical corticosteroids are the mainstay of treatment, with the strength of the topical corticosteroid appropriate to the body site
4) Topical immunomodulators (TIMs) are approved for atopic dermatitis. They are topical tacrolimus 0.1% ointment, pimecrolimus are very helpful.
5) Immunosuppressive agents can also be used.

Please do consult a dermatologist for accurate diagnosis and prescription of above drugs.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
