I have a rash down my arms, all over my legs and a little on my torso that itches terribly. Dermatologist said that it is Excema. Sometimes it breaks out and when I scratch, these pimple type spots come up and then get scabs and will bleed if I scratch. My brother and I both got it late in life. It won t clear up. It fades out a little for a while and then flares up again. What causes it?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Eczemas are mostly endogenous and related to immune dysregulation. I suggest you to use a bland yet intensive moisturizing lotion, e.g., Vaseline or paraffin based lotion. Use it regularly and at least 2-3 times a day. In addition, you can apply a topical steroid ointment, e.g., either Mometasone furoate 0.1% ointment or Triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% ointment, twice daily for the rashes. For itching I would suggest you to take an oral antihistamine, e.g., Cetirizine tablet once every evening for a few days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Kakkar S.
