General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is possible, if the lisinopril is the only change made, that it is the cause of the itching. If this is the case, when it is discontinued, the itching would stop after 2 to 3 days. If this is not the cause, then it would continue and another cause would need to be found. Generalized itching can be due to:

(1) medications (2) liver or kidney disease (3) infection such as scabies (4) thyroid disease (5) allergies

Antihistamines such as Benadryl, Claritine, Zyrtec or Allegra would help decrease the itching.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
