What Causes Itchy Rashes On The Hand And Wrists?

I have had a rash on my hand and wrists close to 12 months, started of itchy, the last three months it has become very dry, lumpy, thickening of the skin on the affected area crusty very itchy at times cracks and bleeds. Biopsy result Lichen planus waiting to see a dermatologist, thus far none of the skin medications have helped. Upon application of medication there is a softening of the lesions however if i don t apply it every four to five hours it once again turns to sandpaper, please help.

Hi,

As first-line management, you can apply low potency steroid creams like betamethasone for symptomatic relief.

If the lesion persists, it is better to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated.

As of now, you can take an antihistamine like cetirizine for itching.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
