What Causes Itchy Red Bumps All Over The Body?

My son continues to scratch his body and then has red bumps. He has taken baking soda baths. When bathing he says it is more itchy. I continue to wash his clothes and he changes clothes every day. He has good hygiene. He wrestles and he says the sweat bothers him, too. What could it be?

Hi,

As per your complain eruption of recurring red bumps all over the body along with itching can be due to common causes like:
- Contact dermatitis that is an allergic reaction which occurs when skin comes in contact with certain agents that your body is allergic to like skin cosmetics, detergents, soaps, fragrances, leather, latex, poison ivy, etc.
- Folliculitis or generalized hair follicle infection caused by Staphylococcus bacteria leading to formation of painful bumps over different parts of the body.
- Another cause can be food allergy or side effect of medicines.

I would suggest you to consult an Allergist or a General Physician and get checked. As of now he can take anti allergic like Benadryl for relieving itching and do cool compresses over bumps.

Once the cause is ruled out it will be treated accordingly. In case of Contact Dermatitis you will be advised anti allergics, topical steroid ointment application and also avoiding exposure to allergen when it is ruled out.

In recurring conditions Immunotherapy will be advised to you. In case of folliculitis antibiotics oral and topical and topical steroids can be advised along with anti allergics to control itching.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
