Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Itchy Skin Rashes After Undergoing Breast Reduction Surgery?
I underwent breast reduction surgery the middle of March under general anesthesia. I have never had sensitive skin in the past, but every since this surgery, I have a skin rash reaction to any treatment I get involving exfoliation with sea salt scrub. For example, if I have a pedicure, the skin below my knees breaks out a few hours later in an itchy rash & small blisters that ooze some type of fluid. This lasts about a week, gradually improving, but very uncomfortable & annoying. Is this temporary, or did the surgery change something in my body that will make this a permanent problem?
As per my clinical experience, the breast reduction surgery per se is not responsible for permanent changes of that part which may pause issue of skin rashes. However, it is quite possible that certain medications may have been prescribed to control the cholesterol or body weight which is usual cause of enlarged breast. The anti lipid medications as statin or else, do pause the issue of skin rashes with itching due to hypersensitivity reactions.Kindly provide me list of your current medications, so that I can guide you further precisely.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
