Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. About an hour ago, a spot above my lip began to itch a little. I told my mom about and she told me it may be a cold sore and gave me a cream for. However after searching the Internet a little I don't think it is a cold sore but am still unsure of what it may be. It is a single bump similar to a mosquito bite and itches a little like one too. Do you have any idea as to what it might be and a possible treatment?
As per your complain it doesn't seem to be a cold sore rather it seems to be allergic reaction caused due to some insect bite as it leaves poisonous venom below skin while sucking blood..
It can also be hair follicle infection or Folliculitis that is commonly due to bacterial infection.. I would suggest you to start applying a combination of antibiotic and steroid ointment.. You can take anti allergic like Allegra as it will relieve itching and shrink the lump.. Apply cold compresses.. Avoid scratching the lump again and again as it will lead to spread of infection and inflammation and will cause more pain and swelling..
