Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Why does the vein inside my elbow alternatively itch then ache? Have had strong pain on inside of lower arm but itching is strongest sensation. Thought I had been bitten by mosquito or something. No bite mark there though. Please answer to: YYYY@YYYY
As per my clinical experience, the itching at particular part inside the elbow may be in concern with allergic condition through atopic dermatitis, eczema or others. Primary guidelines at present: - Keep the part clean with antiseptic liquid - Local application of aloe vera gel and calamine lotion on alternate basis - Control of blood sugar - Anti histamine as cetirizine, loratidine or fexofenadine in mild to moderate cases chlorpheniramine maleate in case of severe itching - Discuss the need of any systemic steroid medications with your family doctor
I personally do not recommend use of local steroid creams in such cases without clinical examination, as it may cause atrophy of skin cells in long term basis.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
