Hello, My name is Mary, i had an iv at the hospital last night , as i was leaveing it started to bleed again and i reaplied a new gauze at that time i noticed a small knot and could see the site where the iv was. This morning i woke to more swelling and reddnis growing up my arm it is at my elbow, i had the iv about 3 pm. thank you for your time. Mary.
Hi Mary, this can happen if the IV that was put had countered, which means the needle could have gone in and again out of the vein leading to some blood getting collected below your skin in the affected area. This could be the knot you are feeling. It should go away in one to two weeks. You can apply hot compresses and apply compression bandage for it go earlier. If the swelling increases or you have numbness or discoloration in your fingers then you should see your Doctor. Take care and let me know if we can help you any further. Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
