What Causes Jaundice Like Skin Complexion Along With Severe Cold?

My husband has had a rather nasty chest infection and a week ago he was put on penicillin. In the meantime, he has also stopped smoking - he was a heavy smoker (40 a day). He still has a heavy cold but what is worrying that is in the last couple of days his complexion has developed a jaundiced complexion. Should we be concerned? Many thanks.

Hello,
A yellow skin tone raises the concern of liver function. Respiratory conditions such as a severe cold and taking penicillin do not generally result in this color change. Have you taken other medication or a large amount of vitamins ? Consult with your physician and review a full medical history. Blood tests and liver function tests may be recommended. Risk of exposure to Hepatitis needs to be considered. Compromised liver function can be a serious disorder and needs a correct diagnosis to reduce long term liver damage.
Thank you for your inquiry.
