What Causes Jaw Pain After A Head And Chin Injury?

I got hit at the same time by two basketballs. One came down and hit the top of my head and the other bounced up and hit my chin and this happened at the exact same time. At first i couldn't open my mouth at all but then I tried a little harder and then it popped when I opened it. Now It really hurts to move it side to side and if I move it up and down too far. Its only on my right side. Before this happened my right side of my jaw would pop randomly about one or two times a week. What do you think could be wrong with my jaw?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain jaw pain and pain on moving the jaw side to side and opening the mouth wide after getting injured on chin and head seems to be most probably due to damage the jaw joint leading to conditions like jaw joint dislocation..
While it can also be due to damage or dislocation of the articular disc that is present as a soft cushion between the bony ends of jaw joint...
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like Panoramic x ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
As of now take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxasone..
Do alternate warm and cool compresses over the jaw joint area..
Avoid excessive mouth opening..
Take soft diet..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
