What Causes Jaw Pain?

My whole jaw has been hurting for awhile now, when I touch my chin sometimes, it hurts. Also I'm not quite sure how to explain it but if I rub my jaw it pops or well its kinda like a knot in your back type feeling. I don't know exactly what it means. Can someone tell me anything about this please?
