What Causes Jaw Popping Sounds With No Pain When A Night Guard Is Not Effective?

Hello I have been having this problem for roughly a month and would like some advice! When moving my jaw I am having a popping sound on my right side that sounds almost like an elastic band being twanged. It can also sound like a guitar string being strummed. There is currently no pain but I am concerned that it may worsen! Sometimes I can also hear grinding sounds and sliding sounds in my right ear when I move my jaw. I do have a night guard that I have been wearing at night for a week but currently no improvements. I should add, these sounds happen mainly when I move my jaw from side to side. Any ideas as to what this could be? Thank you
