What Causes Joint Pain Along With Fatigue And Slow Urination?

My 59 year old husband has HBP and has been c/o slow urination, general muscle & joint pain & overall fatigue, his physician has told him twice now ( after bloodwork q 6 months) that his complaints are normal for his age and not to worry about it. After the last blood draw, he warned him of high potassium levels and instructed him to watch his salt intake, when questioned how to keep the levels down the physician instructed my husband to research it on the internet. It seems to me a change in the current RX , something without potassium would be the best answer. Please share your opinion. Thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The kidney (if normal) has tremendous capacity to maintain the potassium levels. However, if you are taking high potassium supplements orally, and the are kidneys functioning normally, then taking potassium orally won't cause any problem. Don't worry. Check if your renal functions are proper. If the renal functions are normal, then he can take anything (for your information, food rich in potassium are banana, tomato, etc.). High potassium level is commonly a lab error because of faulty blood samples. Therefore, repeat the tests and hope it would be normal. If the potassium levels are high, then you may need a renal function test. But I hope it's normal.

Hope this is clear now. I would be happy, if you need any further help.
