What Causes Joint Pain In The Thumb?

I have had serious joint pain in my thumb for about 6 months. I saw an Orthapedic surgeon who gave me a cortisone shot that did not help at all. Due to insurance change with my husband s company (great insurance, thank goodness), I can t get a new doc until April. I have prescriptions for both indomethacin and Celecoxib for unrelated issues (I rarely take either). Would one of them be a better joint pain reliever until my doc appt? I am in constant level 5 pain and own a catering business (need my thumb!).

Hi,

Celecoxib would be better as it will not cause side effects like gastritis, nausea, vomiting etc. And it is also having high efficacy in terms of pain relief. So better to take Celecoxib, not indomethacin. Also, apply ice packs on the thumb. If possible do splint (immobilization) of thumb at least at night time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
