What Causes Joints Pain And Insomnia Long After Treating Fibromyalgia?

Hi I am a 47 year old white female also a LPN with a history of fibromyalgia and I have repeatedly over the years told my MD I feel I have thyroid problems- in addition to fibromyalgia so I have severe joint pain, mood swings, very brittle nails and hair, sleep problems, a horrible time losing wt which is the worst part, vision changes, on and on. I read the thyroid letter on FB and I was shocked how much it described me. Finally my dr sent me for an ultrasound, which showed 2 nodules and a mass and an enlarged thyroid. I went to an endo who was really great. He told me the wt wasn t my fault and do me with Hashimotos. I was also surprised to see I have no reflexes. He also said while my blood work was wnl it varies a great deal which is abnormal. Anyway I ve tried a new md (I had the other 23 yrs so it wasn t easy and he started me on armour a low dose and I m to see a new endo as my ins changed. Do u have any advice? Esp about diet I just feel so achy and exhausted all the time I can barely get thru my workday. I m so confused about what to even eat! YYYY@YYYY

Hi,

Noted your history about suffering from LPN, Fibromyalgia, possible Hashimoto's thyroiditis with multiple problems, Ultrasonography showing 2 nodules, a mass and so on, started on low dose Armour in spite of normal blood work.
All your symptoms are indicative of some autoimmune diseases.
Hence I would advise you to consult a Rheumatologist for clinical evalaution, examination and get the relevant blood tests done to get a possible cause so that a proper management can be done.
It is possible that oral steroids like Deflazacort should help you in tapering doses and needs a prescription.Avoid stress and anxiety as these cause a lot of problems by either instigating or enhancing the problems.
There can be a cyclical nature and once the problems start you can notice the foods, beverages and any factors that caused these and avoid these altogether.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
