What Causes Knee Discomfort, Stiffness With Ache?

i was on a bike ride 2 days ago when my left knee started to feel funny, when i was walking around home i felt a twang in my knee. now it feels stiff and has a dull ache all located promarily at the top of my left knee.
what are some possible causes?
