What Causes Knee Pain After Walking For Long Period Of Time?

After walking for four days in July at Universal Studios & Disney World, I started experiencing pain in my right knee. I am 53 years old and have tried 800 mg Motrin 3 x a day for 10 days straight, ice, compression, rest, etc. Now a couple months later, it is still warm to the touch, some swelling, can t bend my leg straight when standing up, pain, and sometimes gives out. What do you think it is? Should I go to a regular physician or to an ortho dr?

Hi,

There are two diagnosis to consider
- ostheoarthritis which is a wear and tear kind of arthritis due to daily activities and it happens with age especially if you are overweight. In this case ibuprofen and some physiotherapy might help with the pain and if you are overweight you will need to loose weight to feel better.
- rheumatoid arthritis- this is a rheumatologic condition and needs specific treatment (not only pain killers).

In my opinion it is very likely you have ostheoarthritis. You will need to see your regular physician first and if needed he will refer you to another specialist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
