What Causes Knee Pain And Weight Gain After A Hysterectomy?

Hi , I ve had a hysterectomy 5 weeks ago and within the last 2 weeks I ve had very bad pains in my knees to the point of not being able to get up or sit down, and having difficulty walking. My wrists and elbows burn so much that I can t raise a coffee cup. I ve also gained 15 lbs since my operation. Removal of cervix , uterus, Fallopian tubes , left ovary. I still have my right ovary. What can I do for the pain? How can I stop the weight gain?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Usual cases with unilateral oophorectomy should not have alteration in hormone status, but still it can be possible in some of the cases. Bed rest or immobility can cause certain weight gain, but not that of 15 lbs. In my clinic, I recommend to evaluate the details of hormone levels including that of estrogen and progesterone for look into the cause of weight gain and further guidelines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
