What Causes Knee Pain?

Hello. I would really appreciate a response, my grandmother is 73 and has a reoccurring pain in the back bend of the leg behind the knees. She has been complaining for several days now that walking really hurts her and it feels as though crumbs go up her thighs when the pains occurs. Do you have any idea what may be causing this and how we can help her?
