What Causes Knot On The Lateral Side Of Neck Above The Clavicle?

I was in a head on collision two days ago and I have noticed a ballon like knot on the lateral side of my neck above the clavicle. There is minimal pain and it moves slightly when I press it. What could it be and should I seek immediate medical attention?

Hello,

The following may be few causes of a knot on the lateral side of your neck:
1) Hematoma or a blood clot
2) Swollen lymph nodes
3) Cysts
4) Salivary gland tumors
5) Thyroid swellings
6) Branchial cleft cyst
7) Sebaceous cyst
8) Lipoma

You don't need to get apprehended but you may consult a general physician sooner or later for thorough physical examination of swelling and any tests if necessary.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
