What Causes Knots In Legs Post Heart Surgery?

male 52 post open heart surgery developed floating dvt lt leg from calf to groin. At one of the surgery sites lt groin their is a couple of knots one the size of a 1/2 dollar obviously their is concern and he needs to go to the emergency room. can you tell me what this is or could possibly be???
