What Causes Lack Of Energy While On Albuterol Inhalers?

A 45 yo female friend has been coughing since last march (7 mos.) The mucus in her lungs has been thick and dry. no h/o asthma but recently albuterol inhalers help her breath. She has very little energy and no fever. Sometimes she wants to fall asleep over her meals. She drank 15 glasses of water at dinner yesterday. She visits her mother in Kansas frequently. No trips to AZ. Negative chest xray and head CT. She sees a pulmonologist this week. Any thoughts?

Hello,

The Albuterol inhalers are frequently used for variety of pulmonary conditions where you have bronchospasm making breathing difficult or worse at moments. There are ample number of side effects with the use of Albuterol as:
- Headache
- Nausea
- Tremulousness
- Lethargy
- Weakness
- Palpitation
- Others

I would recommend to consult your doc for the care of these effects and should discuss the need of dose reduction of Albuterol inhaler.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
