Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a head cold for a couple of weeks no infection just congested head - my nose is now fairly uncontested. I have been feeling quite ok, however I still have no sense of taste. Wondering why this might be so - when my nose is no longer congested?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of lack of sensitivity to taste which could be due be sinusitis , oral infection or nerve dysfunction like glossopharyngeal. In your case it seems to be due to sinusitis.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit neurologist once and take medications which lower down autoimmune or nervous system disorder. Doctor may prescribe anti inflammatory to reduce inflammation in nerve . Maintain a proper dental hygiene to avoid any oral infection. I would advice use of oral corticosteroids as well because if its due to any allergy it will resume back taste. If condition doesn't get well then consult dentist for dental infection and oral prophylaxis. Take diet rich in zinc supplements as that will recover there taste.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
