What Causes Lack Of Vaginal Bleeding After Taking Cytotec For Abortion?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...I used cytotec 800microgram vaginaly*2doses to do abortion on 15 feb,2011 and till today 26 march,2011 av not mensturated. Am i at risk of any gyneacological problem? Or will i still mensturate,because am very very worried.

The absence of menstruation after Cytotec is not normal. Generally period will occur normally after using the abortion pill. You have to consult the gynecologist to find out the below causes:
1. Abnormal continuation of pregnancy or failure of abortion: It should be better diagnosed by ultrasound scan. If it will found, it should be treated by surgery.
2. Ectopic pregnancy: Ectopic pregnancy fails to abort and continue to grow and lead to the absence of a period of some time. Diagnosed by ultrasound scan and treatment is surgery.
3. Molar pregnancy: Some placental cell converts into a cancerous cell and develope molar pregnancy. Should be diagnosed by ultrasound scan and HCG titer. Treatment is surgery plus chemotherapy.

If the above cause will not be detected, menstruation can be induced by progesterone injection in the absence of pregnancy. In the future, use an abortion pill under medical surveillance to avoid this type of complication and stress.
