What Causes Large And Inflamed Tonsils?

I HAVE LARGE TONSIL..AND I WAS NEVER QUESTION ON THIS..DO YOU THINK IT THE METPHORMINE OR LEVOTHORINE THAT I BEEN TAKING OVER 2 YRS. DO YOU THINK IT HAS INFLAMMED MY TONSIL..THEY DON T BOTHER ME. BUT EVERY TIME I GO TO A PHYSICAN THEY SAY YOU HAVE LARGE TONSIL, DO THEY BOTHER YOU..MY REPLY IS NOT, BUT I STARTING TO GET WORRIED THAT IT SOMETHING THAT THEY ARE NOT TELLING ME..

Hello,
Large tonsils do not need any treatment unless they keep getting infected and/or they cause breathing difficulty/snoring at night.We call it OSA (obstructive sleep apnoea). Chronic acid reflux (GERD) also causes enlarged tonsils. Once tonsils reach a certain size, they do not usually reduce in size. But that is not much of a concern! Metformin or Levothyronine are not known to increase the tonsillar size. You can use betadine throat spray and PPIs such as omeprazole 20mg once daily for few weeks.
I honestly think you do not require to remove those tonsils. But please see your doctor if they cause any of the problems that I mentioned above.
