What Causes Large Bruises On The Abdomen?

I am an obese woman in her mid forties suffering from neurological issues, primarily with the sympatic nervous system. Numerous times within the past 10 years, and more often recently, I find large, irregular dark coloured bruising on abdominal area. They are painless and usually disappear within a week. Any ideas?
