What Causes Late Period?

I ve always had a normal menstrual period, this month I was a day late with brown spotting second day I have leaked once on pad but when I urine and wipe a lot of menstrual blood is present. Does not burn nor hurt when I urine and blood doesn t have smell like normal menstrual period.
