Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Left-sided Numbness And Loss Of Sensation In The Body?
A patient loses all sense of feeling in the left side of the back, below the upper limbs, and extending in a band around the chest, below her upper limbs. All sensation on the right is normal. The line between normal and absent sensation is the anterior and posterior midline. What is this condition?
By what you explain the sensation loss of this patient is likely due to problems with the thoracal nerves which are responsible for the sensation of the skin on the side from the anterior line in the middle of the chest and abdomen to the posterior line over the spine.
Tests like MRI or CT scan are needed to determine the cause of this loss of sensation. It can be due to opposite side brain lesion responsible for the sensation in the area or can be due to same side lesion of the spine. MRI of the spine and brain can tell more of the location of the problem and the nature of the condition causing it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
