What Causes Left Sided Pelvic Pain And Breast Tenderness?

Hi, I m 22 years old. I got my first period when I was around 12-13 yo and have been irregular ever since. I went to the GYN for the first time at 18 yo and was prescribed birth controll pills. I took them for about 6 months and then stopped. Period remained regular for next 6 months then became irregular again. Visited the GYN again, had an ultrasound (everything fine) at 19 and was prescribed birth controll pills yet again for a year which then was prolonged for 2 years. Stopped taking them on January 2015 and on May 2015 had blood tests which showed very high prolactin levels (200). Went on cabergoline for 2 months. Up to today, I have had an average of 34 day cycle since September 2015 (shortest cycle: 26 days, longer:50) I occasionally (6 mo apart) get sharp left ovary pain or sometimes (less common) a general excrutiating pelvic pain that lasts for a few minutes that is generally followed with breast tenderness the next few days (started getting them 4 years ago, sometimes 3,6 mo or a year apart). These pains are usually on my ovulation period according to my period tracking calendar. I am worried that it might me something serious. Last ultrasound (may 2015) showed nothing abnormal.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The chronic irregular menses with breast tenderness indicates underlying hormone disturbances at hypothalamus pitutary axis which can be possible with normal ultrasound of the uterus. If the reports of blood tests are available, needed to share the same and if not done till now, kindly discuss the need of same with your treating OBGYN during next scheduled visit and follow up.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
