What Causes Left-sided Swollen Vein On The Temple Region?

Hi, I have a bulging vein or artery on my left temple. I have been crying a lot maybe that was it but its only on the left side. My eyes feel heavy and tired too. Is it just stress or a concern. You can feel it pulsating to the touch and see it obviously face to face. I have a bit of pain on that side but nothing major

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for contacting Healthcaremagic.
Veins are more superficial (closer to skin) than arteries.A bulging vein at the temple could be a normal finding and nothing to worry in those case.
Anything that increases the blood flow to the head area can cause a swollen vein.Tension headache is a common cause for recently dilated veins,it may disappear with time as headache subsides.Check your eyes for sight problems which may cause strain and in turn swollen veins.
The other two possibilities are little bit worrisome and you should take a look on it.
Temporal arteritis is the first one, which is a rare condition in which the the blood vessels over scalp become inflamed and cause some serious problems including permanent loss of vision.
The other one is thrombosis of temporal blood vessels which is a condition in there is clots in the blood vessels,in that case you may require a color doppler for diagnosis.
Since a confirmed diagnosis can not be given without proper examination and investigation you should consult a doctor regarding this.
Wish you all the best
Thankyou
