What Causes Left Upper Abdominal Pain In A Patient With Anemia?

I recently was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia. My hemoglobin has been in the 9 range and my iron around 20. For about 2 months now I have been having increasing pain in the upper left quadrant just under my rib cage. The pain is usually colicky in nature but has progressed at times to a constant dull ache with intermittent sharp pains. I also have a lap band with band slippage. Could this be from an enlarged spleen or related to the stomach?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Left upper abdominal pain can be due to many reasons.
1. Gastric problem like Gastritis, indigestion, peptic ulcer
2. Spleen disorders like Splenomegaly, spleen ruptue, spleen abscess, etc. There are some problems that can cause splenomegaly with anemia tegether such as haemolytic anemias.
3. Heart problems like angina, heart attack can also cause left upper abdominal pain.
4 Pancreatitis ( inflammation of pancreas )

So you should visit a physician. An ultrasound may be required for a confirm diagnosis.

Hope this information helps
