What Causes Leg Cramps While Suffering From Diabetes?
My husband is getting leg cramps, He was on simvastatin,but he stoped taking it a couple of months ago. He is diabetic,on metfoman, he takes bystolic , Could this be whats causeing it? . WE are also giving him Potassium, and Magnesium,turmuric and cinnamon. his other meds. are glimepiride,and amlodipine.what can we try to stop his cramping?

1. since he is suffering from diabetes thus could be peripheral neuropathy but make sure to rule out calcium and salt deficiency and it is important that diabetes is controlled with plain insulin 2-3 times a day. Oral drugs may bring down blood sugar levels to normal, but neuritis will not respond
2. Most of the cramps in the legs or hands are due to calcium deficiency. In chronic or recurrent cases give Vitamin E for long term therapy
3. Cramps should be differentiated for claudications which are exercise related
4. give injection neurobion 2 cc IM daily for 10 days . Cap B complex: twice daily . Tablet Methylcobalamin: 500 mg thrice daily . If alcoholic stop alcohol completely . Injection Calcium with vitamin C 10cc I.V. slow for 5 days
