What Causes Leg Pain Despite Taking Medications?

Hello, My 7 yr old son had been complaining of pain in both of his legs since monday. He says it feels like they are bleeding I gave him ibuprofen monday and tuesday which seemed to help. My big concern is he has been extremely tired. This is a usually over-active boy. Now as soon as we get him home from school he lays down and goes to sleep, and sleeps through the night! Highly unusual. He was able to go to baseball practice tues, but had pain that night. Last night he got home from school, and went to sleep at 6pm, slept until it was time for school weds am-very worried should I be taking him to the Dr or am I over reacting?

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, certainly your kid is too much tired that he goes to sleep for such a long time. Excessive fatigue and leg pains are seen in the following conditions:
1) Viral illness with muscle pains or myalgias
2) Psychiatric conditions like depression and anxiety
3) Hypothyroidism
4) Infectious mononucleosis
5) Obstructive sleep apnea
6) Anemia
7) Juvenile arthritis
8) Rare cases it may be due to blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma

Please take your kid to a pediatrician for detailed clinical evaluation in person. But please don't worry as in most of the cases, it would be due to an infection like mononucleosis that can be completely cured.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

Once physical examination is good to rule out if there is any severity, give him coconut water and ORS solution, and check his fever, if the pain stops on drinking these, let me know and we will proceed further.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
