Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Leg Weakness And Swollen Calf Muscles While Having Hypertension?
I sometimes feel a weakness in my legs that make me unsteady for several moments. I will sometimes have to brace myself from bending over. This happens when I sometimes get up from seating, or if I m standing and then decide to move (walk). This no accompanying chest pain or difficulty breathing. I am 64years old and have a diagnosis of hypertension. I have also noticed that my calves are sometimes swollen (slightly).
Prolonged and long-standing hypertension can cause swelling of both legs. Some hypertension medicine like Amlodipime can also cause leg swelling and pain. We have to rule out conditions like chronic kidney disease, which can also cause a similar clinical picture.
You can consult a physician and be evaluated to find out the cause of your symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
