What Causes Light Brown Discharge While On Mirena Birth Control?

I have had the Mirena birth control for 2 years and recently have noticed pink/light brown discharge (no odor) and shedding of skin possibly? Symptoms include vaginal pinching sensation, burning sensation in left lower back and right lower abdomen. Feelings of soreness and major cramping. Has my birth control shifted?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi

I have gone through your query.

Mirena is a IUD which can cause increased contractions of the uterus. This can cause bleeding. The color of the blood can be brown and also there may be a foul smell.

Usually, this would reduce with time. In case the symptoms persist, getting a gynecological exam and a scopy to visualise any infection or fibroids can help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni
