What Causes Light Spotting Between Periods?

The last time I had sex, it was protected and my period came as scheduled and completely normal. Starting yesterday, I have had a little spotting mostly pink and today, I had a flow, like the normal start of my period but my period is not due for another 10 or 11 days. Could this be ovulation bleeding ? I'm not quite sure what to think.
