What Causes Lightheadedness And Dizziness After Withdrawal Of Zoloft?

I recently stopped taking my generic form of Zoloft. I was only on 50 mg and I did not taper down when I stopped taking it about 10 days ago. I am currently having fuzzy lightheaded waves throughout the day. These make me feel dizzy for a brief minute oor two, then go away as quick as they come on. They are starting to get worse and come on more as the day extends...plus I am having spells when I turn my head. I have become increasingly nauseous as well. Is this common after withdrawing from a medication such as this? Thanks, S. Roth

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear S.Roth,

Good Day!

I assume you were taking Zoloft for depression??

Now when you stop zoloft, it is essential that you withdraw the drug gradually as a sudden stoppage can cause withdrawal symptoms which can also include the effects that you describe such as dizziness, anxiety, electric shock like sensations.

So I suggest meeting your treating doctor and restart the drug and stop the drug only as per his/her advice which is to be done in a gradual and phased manner.

Hope I answered your question.
