Hi, I got hit in the mouth with a baseball yesterday, and had my upper lip stitched back together. Today it is mostly scabbed over, but where some skin was removed, there is a light beige color appearing. It started oozing a pretty clear fluid (extremely small amount) around the 24 hour mark. Is this a cause for concern? I just want to make sure it isn t infected.
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Oozing of beige colored fluid could be a sign of bacterial contamination of the wound. I would suggest a course of an oral antibiotic e.g either flucloxacillin Or Cephalexin for a week. Oral antibiotics are prescription products and I would suggest you to immediately contact your physician for the needful. Topically you may use either Mupirocin Or Neosporin ointment, twice daily. However, if discharge increases or the region becomes painful, red and swollen it might be necessary to open up the stitches to drain away the infected secretions.
Regards
