What Causes Little Brown Spotting After Having Pap Smear?
Hi. I had a pap smear on Dec. 21. Today is Dec. 27. I wear a panty liner, and noticed a little brown spotting. However, when I washed well inside, on the washcloth there was bright(not dark) red blood. Is that normal after pap? I don t have any pain, and if I hadn t been using a white washcloth and cleaned well, I wouldn t have seen the bright red blood. Concerned. I am 64.
Hi. I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.
Cervix has high blood supply, so even a small scratch or brushing can tend it to bleed.
Bleeding or spotting after a Pap smear test is common & not always pathological to worry about. Even people without infections, cancer etc will bleed after the TEST as it is a delicate structure.
If you have severe bleeding, which is uncontrollable for morethan 3days then you can contact your gynaecologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.
Regards, Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
