Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter (7 years old) has little bruises on her calves (size of finger tip). After several days they fade but then a day later they come back. This happens continuously for several weeks. She said that they don t hurt and she did not fall down or bump into any object. What could be the problem?
Hi, The red spots you are saying is called purpura. It is divided into two kinds 1.Petechiae- less than 1cm lesions and 2. Ecchymoses, bruises- more than 1cm, larger and deeper lesions Don't get feared until your are sure about the condition. The lesion may due to platelet deficiency or defect which are one type of blood cells that look after bleeding issues in our body. Just do complete blood count test look for platelets in that. If it so normal, be calm and cool. Don't forget to rule out any syndromes, if there are associated symptoms. If there is any doubt, ask. Hope you are happy.
