Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve had an iud placed in October 2015. From December to June, I had short(1-3 days), very light periods. Beginning July and increasingly so in August, my periods are longer (almost if not a week) and heavier. My periods before the iud were heavy and lasted about a week as well. Also, when my period starts, I get really intense sharp cramps as opposed to the dull achy cramps I got before the iud. Should I go in for a visit or is this inconsistency with the iud to be expected?
Painful and heavy menstrual bleeds are common side effects of IUDs. If they do not resolve, at times they need to be taken out and other means of protection are used.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
