What Causes Long Period After Having Surgery For Ovarian Torsion?

I recently had surgery for an ovarian torsion. About 3 days after surgery I started menstruating and this was strange since it came almost a week early. It has now been nearly two weeks, and I still have my period. I was just wondering if this is normal, and for about how long should I expect my period to last. Thank you!
